Brazilian star Neymar scored his first goal since January aa he helped PSG to secure a place in the last four of the French Cup. Neymar and PSG are in the last four after they thrashed Angers 5-0 at home earlier this week.
Neymar was able to end his little goal drought by scoring one of the goals against Angers. It was the first goal in three months for the Brazilian though it must be said that he missed a lot of football during this period due to injury and suspension.
The last time Neymar scored for PSG before the French Cup quarterfinal clash with Angers was on the last day of January. He scored a brace against Lorient on January 31 and had gone six games without a goal until he added a third goal via his head against Angers after 65 minutes.
PSG led 2-0 at half-time with goals from Mauro Icardi and Vincent Manceau (own goal) before Neymar’s goal 20 minutes into the second half. Icardi added a fourth goal three minutes later before he wrapped up the comprehensive victory over Angers on the stroke of full-time to take his tally to 11 goals in just 15 starts in all competitions.
Icardi has now scored four goals in the last two games following his late winner in the dramatic 3-2 win at home to Saint Etienne in the league last weekend. He would be hoping to continue his good form when PSG face Metz in their next league match on Saturday.
On the possibility of in-form Icardi starting the Champions League semi-final first leg meeting with Manchester City next week, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed that he’s yet to decide on that.
Apart from PSG, the other teams in the French Cup semis are fellow league title rivals AS Monaco, Montpellier and amateurs RumillyValleries.
