Brazilian star striker who plays for the French side Paris Saint Germain has confirmed that he will continue to play for the club side this season. This sets to rest all speculation about him moving out on a huge deal to another European club. The grapevine was abuzz with stories about his possible move out of France in the upcoming season. It was believed Barcelona among others had shown interest in him. But that was before the pandemic broke out.
With the Coronavirus pandemic having put high priced deals on the back burner, there weren’t many suitors available for him now. His last appearance for PSG was against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final last month. PSG was beaten by the ruthless German club Bayern Munich 1 nil in Lisbon in that match.
Neymar made the announcement of his staying back in France just days before he tested positive for Coronavirus. He is among 3 players of his club side to have infected the SARS-CoV2. It is believed Neymar and his 2 teammates contracted the virus in Ibiza, Spain. The trio had gone there for a vacation after the Champions League final. This means that though Neymar is around he will be staying away from the team in isolation for a specified period of time. Due to the contraction of the virus, the superstar strikers will miss PSG’s 2020-21 season openers. PSG is scheduled to play RC Lens on September 10 in their season opener.
Neymar is currently the most expensive club player in world football. In a move that had raised many eyebrows and surprised pundits, he was signed by PSG for 263 million US Dollars from Barcelona in 2017. He scored 19 goals and assisted 12 others for his club in the 2019 season. Neymar appeared in 27 matches for the French side last year.
